- Health and weight are not related. A fat or chubby child is not always healthy.

Full term Baby (i.e after 37+ weeks of pregnancy).- Weight – 2.5 kg to 4 kg.
Weight below 2.5 kg is considered as low birth weight. - Height – 45 cm to 55 cm
- Head circumference : 33 cm to 37 cm
- Weight – 2.5 kg to 4 kg.
- Preterm babies (born before 37 weeks of pregnancy) can have lower birth weight than full term.
- A new born’s birth weight doubles in between the first 4-6 months, triples in a year and becomes 4 times in 2 years.
For example:
Birth Weight – 3 kg
4-6 months – 6 kg
1 year – 9 kg
2 years – 12 kg - Thereafter it increases by 2 kg every year until the age of 6 years.
After 6 years, it increases by 3 kg every year until puberty (12 years approx) - The birth height increases by 25% after one year and double after four years.
For example:
Birth Height – 50cm
6 months – 66cm
1 year – 75cm
2 years – 87cm
4 years – 100cm - Thereafter it increases by 6 cm every year until puberty (12
years approx).
